CIHRM Pays tribute to the late Mr. John Mbroh

Mr. John Mbroh served the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP), Ghana, now Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM), Ghana, in various capacities since 1993. Until his sad passing, he was the Chairman of the Institute’s Membership and Fellow Status Committee.

A foundation member of the Institute, John Mbroh was the pioneer General Secretary, serving two terms in a row, from 1993 to 1996. As General Secretary, he worked closely with the first President of the Institute, Professor T.B. Wereko, who was then Director General of GIMPA. John Mbroh at the time was primarily tasked with helping to set up the Secretariat, overseeing membership, as well as managing correspondence.

During its formative years, the Institute was based at the Industrial Area enclave of Accra. An informal group known as the Industrial Area Personnel Managers Association, had John as the group’s Secretary, while Mr. Samuel Ransford Asiedu was its Chairman. The group held periodic meetings, and eventually linked up with Professor T.B. Wereko. These series of activities culminated to the group’s evolution to become the Ghana Institute of Personnel.

Management (GIPM), and subsequently it became the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners, (IHRMP) Ghana. It is thus heart-warming to note that when ultimately the Institute was granted legal backing in August 2020, John Mbroh was amongst the fold than king the Good Lord for His kindness. Along the way however, John had to leave the Institute to take up an appointment with Guinness Ghana Limited, Kumasi.

John Mbroh’s relationship with the Institute remained a passionate one to the end. He was attentive to issues concerning HR Management, and would not hesitate to call management of the Institute to enquire about steps being considered to help counter issues of discord on the national labour front.

For all the reasons espoused and more, it is with heavy hearts that we bid him farewell today. Fare thee well, Uncle John. May God Almighty grant you eternal rest, and His light perpetual shine upon you.
