The Professional Certification Programme
CIHRM is the statutory body mandated to regulate, develop and promote the HR profession in Ghana. Our 4-Level Professional Certification Programme has shaped strategic, data-driven HR leaders since September 2002.
Overview
The Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management, Ghana is the only statutory professional body mandated to regulate, develop and promote human resource management practice in Ghana. Established under the CIHRM, Ghana Act, 2020 (Act 1020), the Institute sets professional standards, conducts examinations, certifies practitioners and advances research and training in HRM.
The HR function has expanded beyond operational and administrative work into a dynamic, data-driven and strategic discipline. The modern practitioner is expected to add measurable value by designing HR strategies, systems and policies that align with the goals of the organisation — work that requires deliberate professional development.
It is against this background that the Institute designed and launched its four-level Professional Certification Programme in September 2002.
The Pathway
Successful completion of Level 3 confers Associate Membership. Chartered status follows Level 4 — the submission of project work and five years of HR field experience.
Entry: HND, BSc, BA, MSc, MBA, PhD, or completion of first year of any degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
Builds operational fluency across the HR function.
Entry direct to L3: First Degree, Master's, or PhD in HRM or an equivalent degree. Graduates become Associate Members.
Project work submission plus five (5) years of HR field experience. On completion, candidates become Chartered Human Resource Management Practitioners.
Entry & Exemptions
Only students who have completed degree programmes are eligible to apply for exemptions. Exemptions are granted on the basis of subjects on the prospective student's academic transcript(s) and are processed only at the point of application. Students placed directly on Level 3 have exemption fees waived.
