A five-member executive team has been sworn into office to lead the newly inaugurated University of Education, Winneba Chapter of the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP), Ghana. At the inauguration which was held on 13th November, 2019 at the Central Campus of the University, the Executive Director of the IHRMP, Ghana, Mr. Ebenezer Agbettor made a call to students as well as faculty members to endeavour to join professional bodies to enhance and sharpen their professional knowledge and by so doing to contribute in bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Acknowledging the role of faculty members in imparting knowledge to students at the event, the Executive Director made further calls for students to add to their knowledge acquisition by imbibing the requisite skills, standards and professionalism required by industry. According to him, this could only happen if there is industry awareness and application-oriented. Mr. Agbettor was thus happy as the Chapter would help set up industry exposure experiences for members through projects, guest lectures and seminars. To this extent, he paid glowing tribute to the University authorities as well as the executives of the UEW Chapter of the IHRMP for the opportunity and preparatory works made up to the inauguration of the Chapter.

Concluding his address, the Executive Director expressed the hope that “as the Institute comes closer to Academia, we will bridge the gap between Academia and Industry by influencing or adding on the how aspect or how it is done at the workplace.”

On his part, following observation made at the event, Professor George Dandy Dampson who stood in for the Vice – Chancellor challenged the School of Business of the University to get students as he put it “not just to study HR but to eat, drink and behave HR.”

He thus entreated all present to endeavour to register not just as members but to also pursue professional membership by enrolling into the HR Professional Certification Programme.

In his brief comments soon after the inauguration of the UEW – IHRMP Chapter, the newly sworn in President and Deputy Registrar at the Graduate School, Dr. Francis Akrono was thankful to the leadership of the University for granting the approval to set up the Chapter. The Chapter President also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Chapter, pledging to work hard with his colleague executives to make the Chapter even more formidable. He concluded by calling for support from all members of the Chapter and urged them to invite their friends to join the Chapter.

The new executives of the UEW – IHRMP Ghana Chapter that were sworn in at the short ceremony are Dr. Francis Akrono (President), Dr. Emmanuel Yamoah (Vice President), Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo (Secretary), Mr. Anthony Safo-Pomary (Organizing Secretary) and Mr. Mark Armah Laryea (Financial Secretary).
