admin July 28, 2022The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has inaugurated an 11-member Governing Board of the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management, Ghana (CIHRM), with a call on HR Professionals to help in the development of human capital in the country.
He said, under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, human capital development is key, so his ministry is counting on HR Professionals to bring ideas to help develop human capital to create a better Ghana.
The Minister led the newly inaugurated Governing Board members to swear the Oath of office and the Oath of Secrecy at a short by impressive ceremony at the Minister’s conference room at the Ministry of Education on Friday, July 22, 2022.
The 11-member Governing Board is chaired by Dr Edward Kwapong-President of CIHRM. Other members include Leonard Nee Lantei Quarcopome, Vice-President of CIHRM; John Arthur Wilson, Immediate Past President of CIHRM; Dr. Anthony Kwame Apedzi, Council Member of CIHRM; Isaac Sackey, Council Member of CIHRM; Florence Hutchful, Council Member of CIHRM; Dorothy Asare, Council Member of CIHRM and Dr. Ebenezer Ofori Agbettor, CEO of the CIHRM.
The rest of the members are Truedy A Osae, representing the Ghana Employers Association; Abdul Razak Umar, representing the Ministry of Education and Saaka Sayuti, representing the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
In his response, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Governing Board of CIHRM, Dr. Edward Kwapong, on behalf of the board, thanked the Minister of Education for the honour done to them and the whole HR fraternity in general.
He promised to work assiduously to support the Government’s human capital development agenda and also to make CIHRM Ghana a professional institute of choice. Dr. Kwapong assured the Minister of Education of his outfit’s determination to closely collaborate with him to sanitise the market and weed out charlatans who parade themselves as HR practitioners without proper certification and accreditation.
The Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners was founded in 1978 with the mission of improving human resource management practice in Ghana. It was registered as a professional body in 1981. Subsequently, the institute’s HR Bill was passed by Parliament on June 4, 2020, and secured Presidential assent on August 13, 2020.
Thus, since then the institute has operated under the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management Ghana Act, 2020 (Act 1020).
The Regulation (Legislative Instrument-LI) to operationalize Act 1020, 2020 is currently being worked on for Parliamentary approval.
