The Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners, Ghana, led by its Executive Director, Mr. Ebenezer Agbettor and accompanied by Mr. Yen Sapark (Advisory & Research Manager) on Tuesday, 27th November, 2018 participated in the 22nd edition of the National Banking Conference of the Chartered Institute of Banking (Ghana).
The Conference which was held under the theme ‘’Building Confidence in the Banking Industry in Ghana’’ witnessed the attendance of the Vice –President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia described the theme as timely and appropriate coming at the heels of the banking challenges of the failed banks. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, said confidence in the Banking sector of Ghana cannot be purchased by sector players but can only be earned through the policies and measures they put in place as they go about their banking activities.
Touching on confidence the Vice President said “confidence in the banking sector is an intangible asset, it is like fresh air, when it is there you take it for granted, you just keep breathing until someone fouls the air and then you are gasping.’’
The Vice President in his address seized the opportunity to announce that as part of measures to assist in the effective maintenance of stability in the fiscal space of the country, the President, Nana Akufo Addo will in the coming weeks announce a Financial Stability Council and a Fiscal Council.
In a special award ceremony session, the Vice President was awarded by the Chartered Institute of Banking Ghana. In a citation, the Institute said the Vice President has distinguished himself through outstanding contributions both within and outside the banking industry and added that the:
“Vice President Bawumia has brought honour to the profession by assuming the high office as Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, and this significant pinnacle was not achieved on a silver platter, but through hard work and determination.”
